We were first introduced to songstress Lili K through her work assisting fellow Chicagoans Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa and Tree. Today, we have the opportunity to share with you what the talented 22-year-old singer can do on her own. On “Something Special,” Lili takes production from Ayo and The Upperclassmen, which originally appeared on Rockie Fresh’s Electric Highway mixtape, and gives it a soulful new direction. Listen to “Something Special” above, and if you like what you hear, listen to Lili’s latest EP, My Favorite Things, for free below.
Lili K. is the 22 year old songstress whose name is quickly popping up in the music world. Her smooth and sultry sound is countered well by her quirky and energetic live performances.
She began performing in her early years through church and elementary school choirs and started writing original music at the age of ten. Since then, she has built quite a repertoire of an original jazz/ neo-soul/ electronic-hip hop sound. Growing up in an artistic household in the city of Milwaukee, Lili learned to channel her emotions and combine her influences to create her individual sound. She graduated from Milwaukee High School of the Arts where she was trained in classical, opera, and jazz voice, and graduated in December of 2012 from Columbia College Chicago with a bachelors degree in Arts, Entertainment, and Media Management.
Lili K. has performed at numerous events, including Summerfest and CMJ, and has performed alongside acts like Musiq Soulchild, Dwele, BJ The Chicago Kid, Chance The Rapper, etc. She has performed at SXSW in Austin, TX, to much acclaim. In July of 2011, Lili released her first project, a four song EP entitled ‘A Prelude To Hello,’ with composer Peter Cottontale. She has worked with Thelonious Martin, Naledge, Sulaiman, MC Tree, and Chance The Rapper. On October 31st, 2012, Lili and Peter Cottontale released their second project ‘Metal Petals.’ Lili K. released her third EP ‘My Favorite Things’ on July 1, 2013. She’s a fresh face to the game with a modernly vintage sound; there is much more to come from this young vocalist.
