After graduation, most kids from high school spend their summer hanging with their friend’s right before they go their separate ways for college. The young, talented, and rising star Kiya Lacey can’t necessarily say the same thing. After she graduated, her focus was to beat out the Nashville competition to have an opportunity to open up for the R&B super-star sensation Brandy Norwood. With her soulful and captivating voice she was able to win the competition with ease. On June 8th, 2013 the upcoming star made her debut as the opening act for Brandy at the War Memorial in Nashville, TN. The performance, which lasted 30 mins., grabbed the attention of the packed auditorium as the audience sat in staggering awe, when the young Kiya began her ballad.

The 18 year old future star, described the positive atmosphere and the crowd’s reaction as surreal. In addition to the audience reaction, headlining sensation Brandy, could not help but spend a significant amount of time with the young star giving accolades and advice on her journey into stardom. Kiya was able to soak up all the advice from the R&B veteran who told her, “I remember walking a similar path at your age, and you will make it as long as you tune out the doubters, follow your dreams, and never give up.”

Besides her amazing voice, the Nashville native gives credit to her inspirations Esperanza Spalding, Erykah Badu, Pharell Williams, and Norah Jones for the artist she is today. This young lady has taken in all aspects of Nashville, better known as “Music City”. A 2013 graduate of Harpeth Hall High School, she is preparing to enter Belmont University to study music business in the fall 2014. Her passion behind all her music, demonstrates her ambitious nature. Her message to the public as an artist is to be you and not be afraid to be different. Keep an eye out for the young, vibrant, and talented Kiya Lacey because next time she won’t be opening; she will be headlining.
