Lyrically I haven't heard such a hungry and talented artist in years. Graphk is a breath of fresh air to Sacramento's hip hop scene.
Born and raised on the volatile streets of South Sacramento, California, Joshua Argee a.k.a. Graphk, fell in love with hip hop at the tender age of 6 years old. Growing up a self titled “Cali-Baby,” Graphk was influenced by West Coast greats; Dr. Dre, Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, Digital Underground, and E-40. What he appreciated most was the artist’s ability to change the game with their unique styles in production, lyrical content, and innovative vocabulary. As a fan and student of hip hop, Graphk was also influenced by artists like Nas, Jay-Z, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and the underground legend, Big L. A combination of all these influences sparked Graphk’s voracity for wordplay.
Although being raised by his Grandmother and Aunt, the pain and frustration of being estranged from his parents fueled Graphk’s desire to succeed, and gave him life experience to which he uses as inspiration for expression thru his pen. Before the street’s allure could further seduce him, and draw Graphk into the hustling lifestyle, it was his love of sports and hip hop that steered him to another direction, and he began creating song after song full of creative punch lines, and ridiculous wordplay. By doing so, Graphk has forged himself to be one of Sacramento’s most versatile and talented artists.
As an independent artist, as well as 1/4th of the highly regarded hip hop group, The Goondox. Their shared work ethic, hustle and mentality paved the way for them to sell over 70,000 units throughout the west coast, thus solidifying their brand and showing they have positioned themselves as being on the verge of becoming mainstays in this industry.
